Fair Play Art Fair Launches in London

A Booth-Free Model for Independent Artists

15–18 October 2026 | One Marylebone, London

A new addition to London’s art calendar, Fair Play Art Fair, launches its inaugural edition at the historic One Marylebone from 15–18 October 2026. Offering an alternative to the economics of traditional art fairs, Fair Play eliminates upfront booth fees, creating a more accessible marketplace for independent artists.

Founded by Ryan Stanier, creator and former director of The Other Art Fair, Fair Play aims to shift financial risk away from exhibitors. Rather than paying thousands of pounds upfront to secure exhibition space, approximately 70 selected contemporary artists are offered stands free of charge. The fair instead operates on a commission-based model, taking 50% of sales, allowing artists to connect directly with collectors, curators and a new generation of art buyers.

The inaugural cohort comprises 65–70 independent artists from more than 15 countries, with female artists representing the majority. The selection spans painting, sculpture, digital art, photography and experimental installations, including works by acclaimed East London artist Tim Noble.

Maintaining a curatorial standard without a pay-to-play barrier, participants were selected through a competitive open call by an expert committee. The 2026 selection panel includes Kate Bryan, Chief Art Director at Soho House; Jo Baring, Director of the Ingram Collection of Modern British and Contemporary Art; Lison Sabrina Musset, curator and co-founder of The Collective Makers; and Angus and Charlotte Buchanan, founders of Buchanan Studio.

Moving beyond the conventional exhibition hall, Fair Play takes over One Marylebone, the landmark former church designed by Sir John Soane. Contemporary art is integrated into a wider cultural programme, with immersive installations and sound art across the main floors. An evening programme of artist-led supper clubs and late-night DJ sets in the building’s atmospheric underground vaults adds a social dimension to the fair.

Taking place during Frieze Week, Fair Play Art Fair offers a democratic, community-driven meeting point for artists and audiences in central London, just minutes from Regent’s Park.
